How often can I wash my wig?

Our Beauty Advisors recommend washing a wig every fourth day it is worn. Therefore if you plan to wear your wig every day, you should wash it about twice a week.

How do I wash my wig?

Hair & Beauty Advisors recommend washing your wig by hand with a mild shampoo and conditioner. If your wig is synthetic you should only use shampoos and conditioners that are formulated for synthetic fibers. This will keep the fibers lasting long and prevent fraying. For human hair wigs, you can use any over the counter shampoo.

Can I use a curling iron or blow dry my new wig?

If you purchased a human hair wig from us, you are okay to use curling irons or other heat applicances but if your wig is a synthetic one, do not use heat on it! It will cause damage and melt the synthetic hair strands. The best way to dry your synthetic wig is on a wig stand. We sell portable folding wig stands that can be carried with you and are great for drying or setting your wigs on. Contact us directly to order. 

How should I store my wig when I am not wearing it?

The best way to store wigs is to place them on a wig stand with a hair net over it so that the style of the wig can be preserved. Wigs can also be kept in a hair net and in a plastic bag (which usually comes with the wig) when it isn’t being worn.

What should I use to comb or brush my wig?

This depends on the length and style of the wig you have. It also depends on whether your wig is made from human hair or synthetic hair. For synthetic wigs, use brushes designed for synthetic wigs. Hair & Beauty Canada sells specially designed wig brushes called "Mono" brushes. These are not sold at other retailers and are exclusively for our customers. These brushes have special combs so that you dont pull the hair out of your wig. Please call us directly to order. Using these brushes will help keep your wigs longer lasting. On human hair wigs, only use a wide tooth comb or brush to avoid tangling.

 How can I detangle my wig?

There are specially formulated sheen sprays that can be used to detangle synthetic wigs and give them some shine. This is especially good for long haired and tight curled wigs. If you have a human hair wig, we recommend an over the counter product called Infusium or Citrus Shine.

Do wigs come in different sizes?

99% of wigs at Hair & Beauty Canada are average sized because they fit 99% of the population. There are a few manufacturers that design large wigs or petite sized. The best way to know is to measure your head but in most cases you will fit an average. The full line of wigs we carry come with adjustable straps. These straps allow the cap of the wig to adjust to the size of your head for a great fit.

How do I know what size wig that I need?

If you are not sure you can call one of the Beauty Advisors at Hair & Beauty Canadd, but keep in mind that 9 times out of 10 you most likely can purchase any wig on this website and it will fit you. However if you are still unsure, you can measure your own head and give us a call. We'd love to hear from you.

Regular size for a Wig is 21 1/2 to 24 inches depending on the manufacturer. Unless Stated otherwise most wigs come in regular size fitting a head ideally from 22 to 23 inches but can be adjusted to go as low as 21 1/2 and stretched slightly to accommodate a head size of as much as 23 1/2 to 24" 

Petite in a wig is 20 1/2 to 21 1/2" again, depending on the manufacturer. Most petite wigs are worn by children and people with really small petite features.

Larger head size is usually between 23 to 25" depending on the manufacturer

What else can I do to ensure the secure fit of my wig?

The adjustable straps can be used to make a wig quite tight on your head so that, in most cases, it would be hard for it to fall off. If you want extra security, wigs can be further secured by using bobby pins through the wig or at the edges of the wig. Some of our clients have been known to sew the inside straps of the wig for an even more secure fit. If you have no hair, double-sided tape can also be used for extra security, but may not be used if there is any hair at all on the scalp.

What is the best way for me to wear a wig if I have long hair?

There are two options that work quite well for our clients with longer hair. Some of our clients wrap their hair around their head and pin it in place underneath their wigs. You can also wear a wig cap (a head cap that may be worn underneath wigs). The wig cap fits tightly (but comfortably) over your hair and keeps your hair in place.

Should I purchase a wig cap with my new wig?

Using a wig cap is up to you! Most of our customers at Hair & Beauty Canada prefer to use wig caps because it holds the hair in place better and helps to keep the wig cleaner. The wig caps may also prevent hair breakage. Wig caps are also quite useful if you have longer hair. * We highly recommend wig caps for persons experiencing medical hair loss such as alopecia or those persons who are undergoing chemotherapy treatment as they might be experiencing additional skin sensitivity. For persons with medical hair loss, the only caps you should wear are the mesh antibacterial caps. These specially designed caps sold exclusively at our store and are available for order. Antibacterial wig caps prevent sweating, kill odor causing bacteria and keep your wigs smelling fresh and clean. Please contact us directly should you wish to order.

Can I cut my wig?

Yes. Both our synthetic and human hair wigs may be cut just like normal hair. This can be helpful if you purchase a longer wig and later decide to go with a shorter style, or if you would like a custom look with bangs or layers.

What is the best thing to do for the hairline when wearing a wig without bangs?

The best thing is to leave front of your hair out partially in the front then blend it into the wig so that your own hair line is shown. Usually, wigs without bangs have little baby hairs in the front or have a skin-like cap so that the wig will look as real as possible.

What type of wig cap is the most natural?

In general, most people find that the skin-like cap or the monofilament cap looks most like a natural scalp. In cases where a client has no hair, we recommend a monofilament cap, as this allows the client’s real scalp to show thru the wig.

What is the most natural looking and undetectable of all wigs?

This would be the lace front wig. The hairline on these wigs is literally undetectable when applied correctly using toupee tape or glue.  A lace front wig was traditionally only worn by celebrities and super models but now is available to the general population. Singer Beyonce and Model Tyra Banks are among the few who wear lace front wigs every day. These hair systems can be worn up to three weeks at a time without being removed.

Also of course, a human hair wig in general will always be your best bet for natural feel.
